In feudal Japan it was believed that Amatersu slept in a cold, remote cave during the winter. The other deities woke her with a loud celebration. When she looked out of the cave she saw her own image in a mirror. The other deities convinced her to come out of the cave, restoring sunlight to the world.
Kami is the Japanese word for ancestoral spirits (loosely translated into English).
